Deanestor Delivers 16th Fitout Contract for Morrison Construction

Greyhope Primary School and Community Hub is Deanestor's 16th contract for Morrison Construction. It involved the provision of around 6,000 items of loose and fitted furniture for the new campus near Aberdeen.

Deanestor has designed, manufactured, procured and installed furniture and equipment for 116 rooms across the campus. This follows the successful completion of Countesswells Primary School last year, for the same project team.

Both projects were for Aberdeen City Council and with main contractor Morrison and delivery authority Hub North Scotland. The architects were Halliday Fraser Munro.

Items manufactured by Deanestor include a trophy cabinet, tilt-top tables, worktops, desks, storage solutions, lockers, and teaching walls.

The fitted furniture has white cabinets with graphite grey fronts to contrast with a bright palette of colours for the loose furniture – in lime green, yellow, powder blue, parrot green and tangerine.

The new campus is a major investment by Aberdeen City Council to provide a new primary school and a range of amenities for the local community, including a café, library, performance facilities and housing office.

Commenting on Deanestor's performance, Michael Black, Construction Manager at Morrison Construction, said, "I am pleased to report that Deanestor's furniture and fitout package for Greyhope Community Hub went very well."

“This project follows their successful delivery of a number of other school construction fitouts for Morrison. Their teams are collaborative from the earliest stage and work to a consistently high standard, both in the factory and on site. Deanestor remains a key supply chain partner to Morrison.”

Councillor Martin Greig, Convener of Aberdeen City Council’s Education and Children’s Services Committee, said,This new school is a splendid facility that has been carefully designed for the benefit of the young people of Torry. The rooms and spaces offer a high-quality learning and caring environment.”

“The Community Hub is a busy hive of activity that provides a wide range of additional services to the local area at various times of the day. It's good to hear pupils and residents say how pleased they are with their fine new building. Greyhope will make a real difference and serve Torry for generations to come."

Ewen Fowlie, Operations Director at Hub North Scotland, said,Greyhope is an outstanding community facility which is providing a wonderful learning environment for children and excellent services for Torry residents. This building will be a community landmark enjoyed by everyone for generations to come.”

Located on the site of the former Torry Academy, Greyhope Campus has a strong public presence and now acts as a focal point for local residents.

The two-stream primary school caters for 434 pupils and has provision for 100 early years and nursery places. The building is configured over two floors and split into three areas – a primary school, community hub and an early years centre.

The new Hub has created a physical space for the community, promoting social inclusion and a commitment to lifelong learning. It offers a wide range of recreational and educational opportunities, including a full-sized synthetic pitch, and community and sensory gardens for all to use.

Deanestor manufactures and installs robust and flexible loose and fixed furniture solutions for early years, primary, SEN, and secondary education, fitting out areas such as classrooms, science laboratories, ICT, design and technology, atria, social dining spaces, break-out areas, sports facilities, and changing rooms.
